Endodontic treatment is necessary when the pulp, the soft tissue inside the root canal, becomes inflamed or infected. The inflammation or infection is generally caused by deep decay.
The purpose of endodontic treatments is to treat the infected pulp area while avoiding tooth extraction. Normally endodontic treatments are suitable for teeth no. 1-7. Your endodontist will discuss the the procedures with you in details after examination.
At The Dentist Clinic, we use a modern specialized equipment for endodontic treatment to thoroughly treat, fill and seal the root canal and avoid damaging pulp and nerves around the root ends.
Endodontic Treatment Procedures
1. The endodontist makes an opening in the crown of the tooth, measures the length of the root canals, uses an instrument to clean and remove the infected areas, fills and seals the root canal.
2. After root canal treatment, the tooth becomes fragile.
To protect the biting surface, the endodontist generally recommends placing a crown over the tooth afterwards. After the treatment, you may feel sensitivity for 2-3 days. It should disappear over a short period of time. Pain-relief medicine may be necessary in case of severe sensitivity. In addition, you should avoid using the tooth to chew or bite as it is more fragile after the treatment unless a crown is placed over it for protection.
